Poster Editing

Why I didn't choose numbers 1-6:

1) Whilst I liked the contrast between the Black and Colour as they reflected my trailer I felt that the line bewteen them made the whole poster and photograph look unprofessional.

2) The second poster looked slightly better as I covered half the face with a colour block at 'Opacity' tool to 40% using Adobe Photoshop however I wanted the audience to either see half of his face or the whole face not a bit of both as I felt it gave away 'the twins' one being good and one being evil without being subtle about it.

3) Using the main actor's whole face I wanted to connect with the audience however I realised that it made him look vulnerable as he was looking straight into the camera with a sad expression.

4) Yet again the whole look became unprofessional as the 'Burn' tool on photoshop managed to turn his face dark purple instead of blacked out so that was out of the quesiton.

5) This was one of my favourite from the above however after taking the opinions of other media students I found that when the veiwer look at the poster their gaze went straight to the block of colour instead of to the actor, who should be the main subject of the photograph.

6) The main difference between 6 and the final poster was the colour of the main title 'Recollection' the reason I changed it from white to navy was because it didnt stand out compared to the other writing, like the tag line, on the poster.

Why I picked the 'Final Poster'

The poster I chose gave the story of the two sides without being to obvious, it also allowed the veiwer to concentrate solely on the main actor as the background was an out of focus grey. The text looked better in navy as it went with the colour scheme of blue (actor's shirt) white and grey. These nuetral colours were used to give the poster a simple yet effective look similar to 'The Bourne Identity'

Poster Pictures

I used this one as I felt it connected most with the viewerI didn't use this as he wasn't looking directly at the camera

Magazine Editing

To create the posterized effect I messed arond on photoshop until I found what I was looking for. It also allowed me to Desaturate the picture but edit the darkness of each colour. Therefore you can still see colour through the black.

Casting

Main Role: Mandour AlMahadi
Why?:
The reason I chose Mandour was beacuse he had a rough look about him, needed in a n action hero. He also had the right build, tall and muscular, as action hero's must appear to be able to protect. As a plus he could also act without laughing.

Supporting Roles:
Yacine:
I chose Yacine as one of the assasins as he was tall and well built, not taller than Mandour therefore it allowed the main character to be at the centre. A problem with Yacine was that he kept laughing unlike Mandour therefore I gave him a supporting role instead of the main role.

Titles Slates

To set up the storyline I need a few Titles slates, too many can give away the Sotryline too little and the audience will be confused.

Imagine Waking up - Ground Shots
Not Knowing - Location Shot
Who you are - Gettign up shot
Or who you're running from - Three people shot - change in music

Fonting

I noticed that posters and trailers from the 'Action Thriller' all had Bold, Clear and Concise writing, no effects or curlz, as seen in a poster from a thriller or romantic comedy. Therefore I decided that I would use simple writing, possibly white or blue, which would be recognisable for that genre these are the ones I could choose from:

I chose the last one as I felt it was neat and looked good on the final poster and trailer, with editing, I managed to create a look where the text is closer (similar to The 'Mechanic') it's more concise (this was acheived using Adobe Photoshop)and because it was on Word I was able to access it easily.

Institutes

I created this logo, as the independent company working alongside my mainstream institute, this is because it will appeal to a variety of audiences not just mainstream or independant.

I used Film4 as it is a UK based company which produces Independant films such as 'Slumdog Millionaire' which can also end up as mainstream so therefore incoporate both ideas

Film Name Research

Names Considered:

- Who Am I?
- Mirror Image: this was my first choice
- Recollection: but the survey results backed this name

- Lost Identity
- WhoWhatWhere.
- Recall

As you can see the number of people that preferred 'Recollection' is nearly triple the amount of the second most popular 'Recall' therefore I decided to change the name 'Mirror Image' which gave thoughts that 'Aden' was running from himself whilst 'Recollection' simply named what Aden was going to be doing throughout the whole film, Recalling past events.

End Result:

Independent or Mainstream?

I've decided to go with Independant as my Poster and my magazine will be independent plus my trailer will use conventions from the bourne indetity and memento.

Conventions of an Action/Thriller

Lead Role is contiunously pursued by a

certain enemy.

A Betrayal will occur during the movie.

Supporting role usually played by a female, who becomes the lead roles 'lover' by the end of the film.

Unpredictable ending, keeping the audience on edge, usually questions whether the character will die or not.

Climax resolves this question.

Treatment

Aden is a young man who wakes up not knowing who he is or where he has come from; unbeknown to him he has recently faced an attempted murder by his twin brother. Why? Because they are both heirs to an extremely rich residence of which they both qualify as the owner is their grandfather. Aden has to work out what’s going on before the assassins complete their mission to wipe him out. On the way he meets people that will help him and betray him but unfortunately the assassins end up killing Aden however the twin brother is unsuccessful in ascertaining the estate as his grandfather finds out what he has done.

Questionnaire Results

What I gained From the Questions:

1)What gender I would be aiming my final products for, although I would have to consider how to appeal both genders within my texts.
2)What age my audience were; beign at school allowed me to research only from the students therefore I went hoem and surveyed my family aswell - to give me variety.
3)Determining what genre to go with, although I had considered a Romantic Comedy most people preferred the other genres, also finding actors willing to participate would be much harder.
4)Posters - Genre
5)This was a test to see what form of advertising has more impact on the audience, the Trailer will be the most important as more people view this than the poster/magazine.

Choosing My Genre

Watching and Analysing many Teaser Trailers, I felt that I would go with the 'Action/Thriller' Genre, which include films like' The Bourne Identity' which is a film I will be basing my project around, although I aim to adress both mainstream and independant therefore I will possibly include some techniques used in the teaser trailer for 'Memento'
